2009
Health Benefits Information

Each year the Health Benefits Committee, comprised of representatives from both the LAUSD and each bargaining unit, review our benefits plans to determine if they are cost-effective, comprehensive and continue to meet the needs of our employees, retirees and their dependents. We are pleased to announce that some of our plan providers will be changing resulting in enhanced opportunities for you to continue to receive benefits and have access to valuable health and wellness coverage.

Benefits Update

To ensure that our benefits deliver quality, choice, and value in a cost effective manner, the following changes to our benefits plan providers and vendors are effective January 1, 2009:

Ø      Health Net HMO will replace PacifiCare HMO

Ø      CVS Caremark will replace Medco Health for all Anthem Blue Cross plans

Ø      Anthem Blue Cross will replace United Behavioral Health as the mental health provider for all Anthem Blue Cross plans

Ø      Anthem Blue Cross National PPO will replace the Fee For Service (FFS) Plan for retirees

Ø      Health Net Medicare Advantage (Seniority Plus) is a new Medicare plan option for retirees

Ø      MetLife Dental PPO will replace Delta Dental for DPO benefits

Ø      MetLife / Safeguard DHMO will replace Delta Care USA and United Concordia for DHMO benefits

Ø      Western Dental is a new additional DHMO benefits choice

Ø      MetLife Insurance will replace ING-Reliastar for both basic and optional life insurance

All other benefit plan designs and providers remain the same as last year.

Anthem Blue Cross, Kaiser, Secure Horizons, VSP, and EyeMed will remain as plan providers in the 2009 plan year.

There will be minimal disruption in the providers who will no longer be available based on these changes.  Therefore, we anticipate a smooth transition to the new plan providers and are working closely with them to ensure a successful implementation, including any transition of care.
