Medical Plans

The District offers several medical plan options.

PLAN

WHO MAY ENROLL

Medical Opt-Out/Cash-Back Plan*

Eligible employees with other health coverage.

Anthem Blue Cross Select HMO

Eligible employees, retirees, COBRA, and AB528 participants, who live in the Select HMO service area.

 

Anthem Blue Cross EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization)

 

Eligible employees, retirees, COBRA and AB528 participants.

Health Net HMO

Eligible employees, retirees, COBRA, and AB528 participants, who live in the Health Net service area and who are not eligible for Medicare (Medicare eligible individuals are covered under Seniority Plus from Health Net).

Health Net Seniority Plus

Eligible retirees, COBRA, and AB528 participants, who are Medicare-eligible and who live in the Seniority Plus service area. Enrollment in Medicare Parts A and B is required. Prior to effective date you must also complete and sign a Seniority Plus Medicare Assignment form to Enroll.

 

Kaiser Permanente HMO

Eligible employees, retirees, COBRA, and AB528 participants, who live in the Kaiser service area and who are not eligible for Medicare.

 

SecureHorizons by UnitedHealthcare

Eligible retirees, COBRA, and AB528 participants, who are Medicare-eligible and who live in the SecureHorizons service area. Enrollment in Medicare Parts A and B is required. Prior to effective date you must also complete and sign a Secure Horizons Medicare Assignment form to Enroll.

Senior Advantage Plan (Kaiser’s Medicare plan)

Eligible retirees, COBRA, and AB528 participants, who are Medicare-eligible and who live in the Kaiser service area. Enrollment in Medicare Part B is required.

*Medical Opt-Out/Cash-Back Plan: If you are an active employee and do not want to be covered by any of the District medical plan options, you can waive coverage and receive $3,000 cash back. This amount will be considered taxable income and be paid in installments in your regular payroll check over the 12 pay periods. If you opt out of District medical coverage, you may still continue dental and vision care coverage. You will be eligible to enroll for medical coverage again next year. Your benefits are not permanently forfeited, and you stay eligible for retirement benefits. If you and your spouse/domestic partner both work for the District, one of you may elect the Medical Opt-Out/Cash-Back Plan and be covered as a dependent under your spouse’s/ domestic partner’s medical election.
