The District will not pay for the health plan coverage of a surviving spouse or other dependents of a deceased retiree. Surviving spouses may, however, continue coverage at their own expense under the District’s AB528 continuation plan, and may also be eligible for COBRA coverage for a limited time. To apply for continued medical, dental, and/or vision coverage, your surviving spouse must call the District’s COBRA / AB528 administrator at 800-527-1482. If the administrator is not notified by the surviving spouse of his or her decision to continue coverage within 60 days following the retiree’s death, coverage will be cancelled retroactive to the date of the retiree’s death.
