BROADOUS READY FOR SCHOOL
VISION STATEMENT

The vision of the Broadous Ready for School Resource Center is to build upon the abundance of resources and relationships that exist in the Broadous school community. Efforts focus on the coordination of community services, case management and other support to make certain that children are ready when they enter kindergarten.

PROGRAM

Broadous Ready For School is a resource center where children and parents in the community can access services and support. Some highlights appear below.

Early Care and Education:

Increase training for early care and education center teachers, center and home providers, and parents around early learning activities and screening for developmental concerns for children ages 0-5 and their families.

Parent/Family Support:

Promote family literacy by providing on-site programs in the areas of adult education (ESL, HS Diploma), child-parent interactive learning courses and parenting classes.

Health and Social Services:

Improve children’s behavior and family functioning through prevention education and activities that include young children and their parents together. Provide case management for teen parents and for other parents of children age 0-5 with high family risk factors.

School Capacity:

Improve communication across the community of teachers, early care providers and families about school expectations. Coordinate a Kindergarten orientation project for children and their parents across the schools and local early care providers.

Program Infrastructure and Administration:

Create a specific physical site centrally located at the Broadous EEC that will house the Broadous RFS Resource Center where families, children, teachers, early care provides and partners can find coordination of services for children ages 0-5. Provide outreach services and materials that are culturally, linguistically and special needs appropriate. Develop a Parent Leadership Cadre that meets regularly to discuss ways to better coordinate existing services and tap into new ones. They will also help guide outreach efforts and make decisions for their community.
