Program Description
The Los Angeles Unified School District is working to support the next generation of quality urban teachers through a partnership with four local university teacher preparation programs via Teacher Quality Partnership grants awarded by the United States Department of Education.
California State University, Los Angeles, California State University, Dominguez Hills, California State University, Northridge and the University of California, Los Angeles are implementing an Urban Teacher Residency Program in collaboration with the LAUSD Human Resources Division.
These partnerships will develop highly qualified teachers with certification in shortage areas. The grants run from October 2009 through September 2014.
* Please note: Individuals, who have earned a teaching credential and have taught using their credential, are not eligible to participate in the UTR program.

Program Criteria
- Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University
- Pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
- Pass the California Subject Examination for Teachers
- Meet Enrollment Requirements for University and Teacher Education Program
- Meet Current District Employment Eligibility
The UTR Resident will serve as an intern, in a LAUSD classroom, with an experienced Mentor Teacher. Upon selection by one of the UTR universities, successful residents will earn a Master's Degree and a California Teaching Credential.
