Katherine Hayes (Chief Research Scientist)

Katherine holds a Ph.D. in Qualitative Research Methods from UCLA with a specialization in Educational Anthropology. She has more than 35 years of experience researching Spanish-speaking immigrant children and their families. Currently she directs or contributes to educational research and evaluation projects in the following areas: structured English language immersion; Spanish language arts; emergent literacy, school readiness, and the achievement gap for both African-Americans and Latinos. Deborah F. Oliver (Program Evaluation & Research Coordinator)

Debbie received a Ph.D. in Social Psychology with an emphasis in evaluation from the University of Southern California. She has worked on evaluation projects for LAUSD since 1985. In the past, Debbie has been involved in evaluating or monitoring parent involvement programs, Title I, and the K-3 District Reading Plan. Her current focus is on special education (Modified Consent Decree) and graduation rates. Contact Debbie


Jesús José Salazar (Program Evaluation & Research Coordinator)

Mr. Salazar holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Southern California with an emphasis on reading and language development, instructional programs for English learners, and special education. He has spent 16 years with LAUSD, is currently a Coordinator for the Evaluation of Master Plan Programs for English Learners in LAUSD. He recently contributed to a publication for "Exceptional Children" on the disproportionate placement of English learners into special education programs. Contact Jesús
