Agriculture & Natural Resources

The Agriculture and Natural Resources sector is composed of seven career pathways: Agricultural Business, Agricultural Mechanics, Agriscience, Animal Science, Forestry and Natural Resources, Ornamental Horticulture, and Plant and Soil Science.

Building Trades & Construction

The Building Trades & Construction sector encompasses four career pathways: Cabinetmaking and Wood Products, Engineering and Heavy Construction, Mechanical Construction, and Residential and Commercial Construction.

 Energy and Utilities

The Energy and Utilities sector is designed to provide a foundation in energy and utilities. It is comprised of four pathways: Electromechanical Installation and Maintenance, Energy and Environmental Technology, Public Utilities and Residential and Commercial Energy and Utilities. 

 

Fashion and Interior Design

The Fashion and Interior Design sector contains two career pathways: Fashion Design, Manufacturing, and Merchandising; and Interior Design, Furnishings, and Maintenance.

Health Science and Medical Technology

The career pathways are Biotechnology Research and Development, Diagnostic Services, Health Informatics, Support Services, and Therapeutic Services.The career pathways are grouped into functions that have a common purpose and require similar attributes.

Information Technology

The Information Technology sector consists of four pathways: Information Support and Services Media Support and Services, Network Communications and Programming and Systems Development. Mastery of information technologies is the foundation for all successful business organizations today.

Marketing, Sales and Service

The Marketing, Sales and Service sector provides students with a foundation in E-commerce, Entrepreneurship, International Trade and Professional Sales and Marketing.

Transportation

The Transportation sector is designed to provide a foundation in transportation services for all industrial technology education students in California. The pathways emphasize real-world, occupationally relevant experiences of significant scope and depth in Aviation and Aerospace Transportation Services, Collision Repair and Refinishing, and Vehicle Maintenance, Service, and Repair.

Arts, Media & Entertainment

Careers in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment sector fall in three general pathways: Media and Design Arts, Performing Arts, and Production and Managerial Arts. AME sector occupations demand constantly varying combinations of artistic imagination, metaphoric representation, symbolic connections, and technical skills.

Education, Child Development and Family

The Education, Child Development, and Family Services sector is composed of four career pathways: Child Development, Consumer Services, Education, and Family and Human Services. The high staffing needs and growing emphasis on improving education will create exciting career opportunities in those fields.

Engineering & Design

The Engineering and Design sector is composed of five pathways: Architectural and Structural Engineering; Computer Hardware, Electrical, and Networking Engineering; Engineering Design; Engineering Technology; and Environmental and Natural Science Engineering.

 CTE Curriculum Resources
DRAFT - CTE Standards (2012) The DRAFT Career Technical Education (CTE) Model Curriculum Standards are designed to assist California districts and schools in developing high quality curriculum and instruction to help ensure students are career and college ready and to prepare them for future careers. The adoption of the English Language Arts and Mathematics Common Core State Standards furthered the need to revise and align the CTE Standards with this new academic core. The newly revised CTE Standards for grades 9–12 are being developed to prepare students to be Career and College ready.
CTE Model Curriculum Standards The California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards were adopted by the State Board of Education on May 11, 2005. This document details the Career Pathway and Foundation Standards within the 15 Industry Sectors and 58 Career Pathways identified by the California Department of Education.
CTE Framework California adopted the CTE Framework and details the plan regarding Career Technical Education for California's 21st Century. The document contains vital information regarding the structure of CTE in California, as well as sample sequencing, performance tasks, rubrics, and occupations.
CTE Course Description Template Use this template to complete the CTE Course Description section of existing courses as well as any new courses being submitted for review.
