Discipline Foundation Policy: SWPBIS

Message from Michelle King, Senior Deputy Superintendent

Welcome to the Los Angeles Unified School District Discipline Foundation Policy web page. The District is committed to ensuring that every student is educated in a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment and every educator teaches in an atmosphere free from disruption and obstacles that impede learning. The Discipline Foundation Policy (DFP) was adopted by the District in March 2007 to establish a framework for developing, refining, and implementing a culture of discipline conducive to learning. Discipline is everyone’s responsibility and we look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to support our students in reaching their potential in a safe and caring environment.

Message from Earl R. Perkins, Assistant Superintendent

The Office of School Operations recognizes the importance of the Discipline Foundation Policy. Discipline is a continuum where schools establish the expectations of student behavior, inform the school communities of the expectations, teach the expectations to students, and establish positive and corrective interventions and consequences that are consistently used with students. The implementation of the Discipline Foundation Policy by every school site in LAUSD will help to ensure that schools are creating a safe and secure environment that minimizes student misconduct while promoting positive student behavior that maximizes student achievement.
