The Board of Education and the Division of Risk Management and Insurance Services are working to assist administrators and supervisors to effectively and efficiently manage employee attendance and reduce absenteeism. On June 22, 2004, the Board of Education approved an Employee Attendance Policy.
The Absence Management Team is monitoring attendance rates for schools throughout the District. We are raising awareness of the impact and cost of absences by:
- Working with principals and administrators to assist them in reducing their absence rates;
- Training principals and administrators to use the Absence Management Reports to monitor the absence rates of their school as a whole and for individual employees;
- Educating employees on the attendance policy, expectations for performing their jobs and how their attendance impacts performance;
- Recognizing individuals with perfect attendance with certificates, plaques, and other items;
- Meeting with school staff to educate them on the provisions of the Family and Medical Leave Act/California Family Rights Act (FMLA/CFRA), workers’ compensation, and other “protected” leaves;
- Assisting administrators and principals in obtaining and/or distributing the appropriate paperwork for “protected” leaves;
- Strengthening open communication with the departments involved (i.e. Site Administrators, Staff Relations, Employee Transaction Services Branch, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Reasonable Accommodation Office) to facilitate the process of designating leaves, monitoring leaves and/or proceeding with disciplinary action.
