Program Description and Schedule

The Aspiring Administrator Portfolio Program provides leadership training and support for aspiring principals and other school site personnel currently in Professional Administrative Services Credential, Preliminary, and Tier II Programs. The purpose of the program is to provide targeted professional development on urgent issues that administrators encounter throughout the school year and to support participants in preparing their professional portfolio.


Program Curriculum

Each session of the Aspiring Administrator Portfolio (APP) Program will focus on leadership development experiences for aspiring and new school site administrators. These sessions offer excellent support and preparation for current administrative and future principal assignments. Participants will attend sixteen sessions. Upon completion of course work, participants will receive a Leadership Certificate indicating completion of the program.

APP sessions will also provide assistance in preparing a professional portfolio based on the LAUSD School Leadership Framework. Participants will be given the Administrators Readiness Guide for Portfolio and Career Development and have time to meet and receive assistance from Mentor Principals. (Meeting schedule and the Readiness Guide are available below in the resources section.)

APP session hours may be applied toward non-university activities for the Tier II administrative credential. Approval of the university is required. APP classes and supporting documents will also assist participants in preparing for future promotional opportunities.


The APP curriculum includes:

  • Legal Issues for Administrators
  • Investing in Teacher Quality
  • Supervision of Instruction
  • Conducting Performance Evaluations*
  • Analysis and Use of Student Data
  • Parents as Partners. Including a Parent Panel
  • Budgeting for Student Achievement
  • Special Education Overview

* In order to attend this session, participants must be presently be serving as an assistant principal or a specialist.
