This fall, the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education will perform its most important job as elected officials – hiring a new Superintendent of Schools.
A nationwide search for candidates is currently underway, and the Board is committed to selecting a strong leader who will continue transforming LAUSD into the nation’s best urban school district.
Superintendent Roy Romer, who is retiring after six years of service, has set the stage for this next phase of reform: Test scores are steadily rising, and with voter support the District is building 150 new schools to end decades of overcrowding and involuntary busing.
To help find the right person to continue the work and represent our diverse community, the Board conducted a wide-reaching community input survey. Results from this survey were used to craft the position description for the next LAUSD Superintendent.
A seven-member Search Committee has been named to screen, interview and recommend finalists. Their work will continue throughout the summer in private, to ensure that the highest quality individuals are considered for the job.
