Measure R Information
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has placed Measure R, a $3.87 billion neighborhood school bond measure, on the March 2004 ballot. If passed, Measure R will provide needed repairs at schools throughout the area and relieve overcrowding by building more classroom seats at new and existing schools.
Many of our schools are over 60 years old and in need of repairs such as upgrading fire safety systems, improving plumbing and electrical systems, and removing the hazards of lead paint and asbestos and upgrading restrooms. Due to the increase in enrollment over the past 10 years, many of our students also attend school in overcrowded conditions on a shortened, year round calendar.
The cost to property owners would be no more than $5 per month per $100,000 of assessed, not market, property value.
